Field notes Solitary midstory palm. Stem 6.13 m tall, 6.5 cm in diameter, with black spines, to 7 cm long; internodes 6 cm long; base with numerous roots, to 20 cm long, 1 cm in diameter. Leaves 18; leaf sheath 40 cm long, open, with black spines; petiole 38 cm long, margined, with black spines; rachis 145 cm long, with brown spines; lamina pinnate, bushy; pinnae inserted in groups of 1-6, basal pinna 17 cm long, middle pinna 39 cm long, apical pinna 16 cm long. Inflorescence interfoliar; prophyll 65 cm long, 4 cm wide; peduncular bract 168 cm long, inserted 25 cm from the base, brown, woody; peduncle 102 cm long, 2 cm thick; rachis 57 cm long, 1 cm thick, green; rachillae 72, 10-29 cm long, cream; prophyll, bract and peduncle spiny. Flowers sessile, yellow. Fruits globose, yellow. HB transect no. 397, subunit no. 2.
