| Field notes | Solitary, stem 3–5 m tall. Rough from densely positioned leaf-scars. Crown of over 20 lvs; petiole 140 cm with sharp edges, no spines; lamina palmate w. ca. 100 segments, split to 1/3 of their length, whitish below, segments 50–100 cm long (basal to apical). Peduncle 26(+) cm long, with 2–3 peduncular bracts which are brown and papery; rachis 30 cm long, rachillae 16–18, to 15 cm long, once branched; fruits globular, 3.5 cm diam., yellow brown, mesocarp whitish, endocarp light yellow, excocarp smooth to slightly rugolate. Fruits 12–40 per infructescence. The palm forms a population of ca 100 visible individuals on a slope in tropical rainforest with the underscrub and some trees felled, adjacent to agroforestry clearing and a view of Patong city to the south. |
